What to Expect at Our Services

What is our worship like?

Thomaston Road church of Christ strives to be one of the most visitor-friendly groups you will ever meet.  Here’s what to expect when you come for a visit. When you walk in the front door, expect a friendly welcome.  You will be greeted personally by greeters who will make you feel comfortable and at home at TRCOC. Expect to see people of different races, ages, and economic backgrounds.  Expect to see happy people - not necessarily people with no problems, but people who are happy to be at church.
Before the service begins, members and guests will be talking and visiting with one another.  Some will probably introduce themselves to you and welcome you.  Just before the worship service begins, some announcements will be made about upcoming events and various members’ needs. During worship, we participate in the following:

  • SINGING: We only use congregational singing and have a cappella singing. It  won’t take you long to realize it’s a wonderful way to sing and that we (you included) can make beautiful music together for the Lord’s praise and our encouragement.
  • THE LORD'S SUPPER: The Lord's Supper will be passed throughout the congregation for all Christians to share each week.  The bread  reminds us of Christ’s broken body on the cross.  The cup reminds us of Christ’s blood which He shed when He died on the cross for our sins.
  • COLLECTION: We pass plates to take up a collection from our members.  As we give to the church, we worship by this act which represents giving of ourselves to God.  We also join our resources together to support the church and its good works.  While you are welcome to give if you wish, visitors are not expected to do so and should not feel obligated to do so; just pass the plate when it comes by.
  • SERMON: During the sermon, you will notice that the Bible is the subject.  Bring your Bible with you and, hopefully, you will leave having learned something and having gained knowledge of this wonderful book a little better. Scriptures are put on screens for your convenience. You may also follow by turning to the passages presented
  • PRAYERS: Prayers are led by men who are members of our congregation.  The prayers will be sincere, spoken from the heart, not recited from memory or read from a book.

You don’t need to be concerned about knowing what to do, when to stand up or sit down, what words to say.  Nothing will happen that will make you feel uncomfortable or conspicuous. There will be no puzzling rituals or unnatural behaviors.  Just come in, sit down, relax and participate in a meaningful worship experience.
Our congregation is as much like a big family as a church can be.  We want you to feel like our welcomed guest.  You will also realize that you have not only been with some good people, but also that you have been with God.   That’s what you can expect when you visit TRCOC. We hope to see you at our next service!
